Strangely enough I hadn't but I really liked his work, not necessarily the style of drawing but more the message his work was portraying. He came to do a speech at our university which I was lucky enough to go and see. He spoke about each piece of art as if it was a journey. He told us how in his workshop he has 'Creativity is Mistakes' carved into a beam. I went to see his exhibition 'The tomb of the unknown craftsman' a week later and felt very inspired by his work. His work is very clever and can make your brain hurt a little but he said himself in his talk that the problem people can have when looking at art is they try too hard to understand the meaning behind it and forget about the at itself. So I tried to look at his work with a relaxed approach not trying to hard to look for meaning. I bought his book at the end of the exhibition and have almost finished it. Its about his life from a very young age and its very helpful to know how artists work when they were a similar age to me. Grayson did an art foundation and his teacher was very interested in pop art so Grayson used to do a lot of pop art style art to impress his teacher and it worked. Now a lot of the work grayson does it pots with painted illustrations on and tapestries but he does just about everything from large scale sculpture to fashion illustrations and i really respect him for doing such a wide variety of things. I also really like the way he writes about his work I hope one day to be able to write as well as him.
